Judith Butler
Judith Butler teaches at the University of California, Berkeley, and is one of the most influential contemporary theorists in feminism and queer theory. Author of groundbreaking works such as *Gender Trouble: Feminism and the Subversion of Identity* and *Bodies That Matter: Discursive Limits of 'Sex'*, Butler has contributed extensively to the renewal of gender studies. She is also one of the most active voices in the current debate on ethical and political issues, and her philosophical reflections are inseparable from an activist stance. In her most recent work, Butler has focused on the study of an ethics of nonviolence in the context of political collectives and social transformation movements.
