Juan Cavia trabalha como diretor de arte e ilustrador desde 2004. Estudou cinema e, em paralelo, desenvolveu conhecimentos de ilustração e pintura, disciplinas que treinou desde tenra idade com o seu mentor, o ilustrador argentino Carlos Pedrazzini. Aos 21 anos iniciou uma carreira como diretor de arte. Desde então, fez publicidade, TV, videoclipes, teatro e nove longas-metragens, entre as quais se destaca O Segredo dos Seus Olhos, de J. Campanella (vencedor do Oscar de Melhor Filme Estrangeiro, em 2010). Colabora com Filipe Melo há mais de uma década, e a dupla tem já vários livros publicados, em Portugal e no estrangeiro.
