Joseph S. Nye Jr. é professor emérito na Kennedy School of Government da Universidade de Harvard, da qual foi reitor. Na sua carreira política em Washington, foi presidente do Conselho Nacional de Informações, subsecretário-adjunto do Departamento de Estado e subsecretário do Departamento da Defesa. É autor de diversos livros, entre eles Compreender os Conflitos Internacionais e O Paradoxo do Poder Americano, publicados pela Gradiva.
