Joseph North

Nasceu em Chester (na Pennsylvania) em 1904, filho de uma família operária de emigrantes ucranianos, e morreu em Nova Iorque em 1976.
Depois de ter conseguido frequentar um curso universitário, iniciou a sua actividade jornalística em jornais locais, aderindo ao Partido Comunista dos Estados Unidos nos anos 20. Participou na criação e dirigiu alguns dos mais importantes órgãos de imprensa da esquerda americana, nomeadamente o diário Daily Worker e a revista New Masses.
