José Reis é professor de Filosofia na Universidade de Coimbra e autor, para além da obra Nova Filosofia, de vários artigos como «Sobre o conceito de Ser», «A função do estético», «O riso segundo Bergson e Lalo», etc. Os três grandes problemas de que tem tratado são: a Causalidade; o Conhecimento; e a Ética, a Estética e a Religião - o domínio dos valores, pois - enquanto interpretadas em termos de Prazer e de Dor.
