José Pereira Coutinho, doutorado em sociologia pelo ISCTE-IUL. É investigador integrado do Centro de Investigação em Teologia e Estudos de Religião, da Universidade Católica Portuguesa, onde participou recentemente no projeto «Identidades religiosas e dinâmica social na Área Metropolitana de Lisboa». Tem pesquisado sobretudo sobre religiosidade, em recorte quantitativo, focando-se no catolicismo, na juventude e nas questões associadas à transmissão religiosa.

A análise da religiosidade em registos comparativo e histórico, assim como das organizações religiosas, são outras áreas de interesse e de pesquisa. Tem publicado artigos em revistas nacionais e internacionais.
