José Lins do Rego

José Lins do Rego viveu grande parte da sua vida em Recife e no Rio de Janeiro. O dia a dia e os costumes dessas cidades servem como panos de fundo para as suas obras. Com Menino de Engenho, Rego deu início ao chamado Ciclo da Cana-de-Açúcar, uma série de cinco romances que retratam a decadência do engenho açucareiro nordestino. Em 1943, publicou Fogo Morto, livro considerado a sua obra-prima. Foi membro da Academia Brasileira de Letras (ABL).
