José Augusto Pereira é doutorando em História pela Faculdade de Ciências Sociais e Humanas da Universidade Nova de Lisboa e investigador do Instituto de História Contemporânea. O estudo em torno do colonialismo e dos movimentos de libertação nacional em África no século XX, com epicentro na Guiné-Bissau e em Cabo Verde, vem merecendo a sua atenção, assim como a história das organizações políticas negras e da luta contra o racismo em Portugal. Tem-se empenhado igualmente no ativismo anti-racista.
