José António Saraiva (1948-2025) nasceu em Lisboa. Formado em Arquitetura, exerceu atividade entre 1969 e 1983. Deu aulas no Centro de Formação da RTP entre 1977 e 1980. Assinou a grande reportagem televisiva «O 25 de Abril, Três Anos Depois» e da série «Os Anos do Século». Colaborou ainda em variadíssimos jornais e revistas entre 1965 e 1983.
Foi diretor do semanário Expresso entre 1983 e 2005 e fundador e diretor do semanário Sol entre 2006 e 2015. Ganhou o Prémio Luca de Tena de jornalismo ibérico do semanário espanhol ABC em 2005. Foi professor convidado da Universidade Católica no Instituto de Estudos Políticos, onde lecionou desde 2000 a cadeira de Política Portuguesa. Publicou vários livros de política e história, e também quatro romances.
