Jorge Silva Melo (Lisboa, 1948-2022) estudou na Faculdade de Letras de Lisboa e na London Film School. Fundou e dirigiu, com Luís Miguel Cintra, o Teatro da Cornucópia (1973/79). Bolseiro da Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, estagiou em Berlim junto de Peter Stein e em Milão junto de Giorgio Strehler.
Tradutor de várias obras teatrais, foi também autor de várias peças, crónicas, documentários, longas-metragens de ficção. Uma seleção dos seus artigos foi publicada pelos Livros Cotovia em 2008, com o título Século Passado. Foi diretor artiístico dos Artistas Unidos, grupo que fundou em 1995.
