Jorge de Alarcão

He was born in 1934 in Coimbra. He is a Portuguese historian, professor, and archaeologist. He graduated in 1958 with a degree in Historical and Philosophical Sciences from the University of Coimbra. He studied at the Institute of Archaeology, University of London, between 1960 and 1962, as a scholarship recipient of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, receiving the... Academic Postgraduate Diploma in European Archaeology and Diploma in Archaeological ConservationHe was also awarded the prize. Gordon Childe, which is awarded annually to the best student at that institute. In 1963, he began working as an assistant at the Faculty of Arts of Coimbra, and in 1974 he completed his doctorate in Prehistory and Archaeology with the thesis Local and Regional Common Ceramics of Conimbriga. He worked as a historian and archaeologist, standing out as one of the leading researchers of the Roman period in Portugal.
