Jorge Araújo nasceu em 1959, na cidade do Mindelo, ilha de S. Vicente, Cabo Verde. Começou por ser jornalista de televisão, em Cabo Verde, e teve depois uma curta passagem pela carreira diplomática.
Em Portugal, conseguiu o seu objetivo principal, o de fazer reportagem. Trabalhou para o Independente, para o Já, para a TVI, para o Correio da Manhã, tendo também passado longos períodos em Londres, ao serviço da BBC. Atualmente, é editor do Actual, caderno do semanário Expresso. Com a Alêtheia, publicou em 2007 o romance O Dia em que a Noite se Perdeu, sendo igualmente autor dos textos Comandante Hussi ou Nem tudo começa com um beijo.
