John Locke (1632-1704) é um dos maiores filósofos de língua inglesa. Fundamentalmente preocupado com problemas de ordem gnosiológica, como era comum nos pensadores da época, as suas investigações situaram-se porém no âmbito das ciências humanas, e não na física e matemática como era então corrente.
