Johann Michel é filósofo e Professor na Universidade de Poitiers. É membro do Institut Universitaire de France e investigador no CEMS/EHESS (Paris). É autor de uma vasta obra na área da Filosofia e das Ciências Sociais (sobretudo no domínio da ciência política, da história e da sociologia). É membro do conselho científico do Fonds Ricœur e foi fundador e coeditor da revista internacional Études Ricœuriennes / Ricoeur Studies.

Entre as suas publicações recentes, destacam-se as obras Quand le social vient au sens. Philosophie des sciences historiques et sociales (2015), Devenir descendant d’esclaves. Enquête sur les régimes mémoriels (2015), Sociologie du soi. Essai d’herméneutique appliquée (2012) e Ricœur et ses contemporains. Bourdieu, Derrida, Deleuze, Foucault, Castoriadis (2013), obra traduzida em português pela Editora Lema d’Origem: Ricœur e os Pós-Estruturalistas: Bourdieu, Derrida, Deleuze, Foucault, Castoriadis (2015).
