Joaquim Veríssimo Serrão (1925-2020). Foi Professor Catedrático jubilado da Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Lisboa e um dos maiores vultos da historiografia portuguesa contemporânea. Autor de uma vasta bibliografia, nela se destacam os trabalhos dedicados à História de Portugal dos séculos XV a XVIII e à História do Brasil dos séculos XVI e XVII. Foi presidente da Academia Portuguesa da História. Foi galardoado em 1995 com o Prémio Príncipe das Astúrias em Ciências Sociais. Membro da Academia das Ciências de Lisboa foi, entre outras instituições científicas estrangeiras, Membro Efetivo da Academia de Yuste.
