João Maria André
João Maria André was born in 1954 in Monte Real, Leiria. He graduated in Philosophy from the Faculty of Arts of the University of Coimbra (1979), and obtained his doctorate from the same Faculty with a dissertation entitled Meaning, Symbolism, and Interpretation in the Philosophical Discourse of Nicholas of CusaHe is a full professor, teaching in the areas of Philosophy and Theater. He is the author of, among other books, Renaissance and Modernity: From the Power of Magic to the Magic of Power (1987), Meaning, symbolism, and interpretation in the philosophical discourse of Nicholas of Cusa. (1997), Thought and affectivity (1999), Intercultural dialogue, utopia, and hybridity in times of globalization. (2005). Already translated into Portuguese The vision of God (1988), The peace of faith (2002) and Learned ignorance (2003) by Nicholas of Cusa. In addition to teaching and research, he has also worked as a cultural animator, notably through translation, dramaturgy and staging at the Bonifrates Cooperative in Coimbra and at the Gil Vicente Academic Theatre, of which he was Director from 2001 to 2005. In poetry he has published Suspended faces and shards in poemsHe also published in theater, The prodigal son, co-authored with Helder Wasterlain (2008), and Pilgrimages. Paintings inspired by "Peregrination" by Fernão Mendes Pinto. (2010).
