João Cunha Silva nasceu em Crestuma, Vila Nova de Gaia. Licenciado em Línguas e Literaturas Modernas pela Faculdade de Letras da Universidade do Porto, é professor e formador. Ser pai da Maria Inês foi o motivo que fez regressar a escrita à sua rotina diária. Muitas das histórias que tem escrito nasceram de «histórias para adormecer a Maria» e foram partilhadas na sala de aula, com os seus ouvintes especiais: os alunos.
