Joana Emídio Marques

Joana Emídio Marques was born in 1974. She grew up in Vila Nova de Santo André, in the Alentejo region. She became a reader of the Gulbenkian Traveling Libraries at the age of seven, started using lipstick and black kohl at 14, when she began writing (bad) poems lying under her bed. She was educated by Thomas Bernhard, Vasco Luís Curado, Seneca, Ingmar Bergman, José Bragança de Miranda and Pina Bausch. She holds a master's degree in Journalism and Contemporary Culture Studies, with a thesis, defended in 2008 at the FCSH of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa, on the transformation of journalistic narratives. She is a journalist and a Facebook user. She wanted to have been a ballerina, wears a size 35 shoe and currently has a broken heater, which makes it difficult for her to fall asleep.
