Jenny Downham tem 43 anos e é mãe solteira de 2 filhos. Foi actriz num grupo de teatro e diz que aprendeu a contar histórias por ter de improvisar para o público relutante para o qual representava (instituições de jovens em risco, prisões, hospitais). Este é o seu primeiro romance, mas já está a trabalhar no próximo. Teve um êxito imediato e estrondoso, e foi por isso comparada a J.K. Rowling.
