James Rachels

James Rachels era Professor Universitário de Filosofia na Universidade do Alabama, em Birmingham. Ele escreveu, entre outros, os livros The End of Life: Euthanasia and Morality (1986), Created from Animals: The Moral Implications of Darwinism (1990) e Can Ethics Provide Answers? And Other Essays in Moral Philosophy (1997).
James Rachels foi responsável por alguns dos trabalhos mais influentes sobre a eutanásia e as suas opiniões incendiaram tal debate nos Estados Unidos. Ele faleceu em 5 de setembro de 2003, aos 62 anos, enquanto colaborava na tradução da sua obra para o português (N. do T.).
