Schwager é um reconhecido especialista de futuros e fundos de retorno absoluto e autor de vários livros financeiros amplamente aclamados. É conhecido pela sua série Market Wizards. É orador frequente em seminários e deu palestras sobre uma série de tópicos, incluindo as características dos grandes investidores, falácias de investimento, carteiras de fundos de cobertura, gestão de contas, análise técnica e avaliação de sistemas de negociação. Possui uma licenciatura em Economia pelo Brooklyn College (1970) e um mestrado em Economia pela Brown University (1971).
