J. M. Barrie

Sir James Matthew Barrie, born on May 9, 1860, was a Scottish novelist and playwright, best known as the creator of Peter PanHe was born and educated in Scotland and later moved to London, where he wrote several highly successful novels and plays. There he met the Llewelyn Davies boys, who inspired him to write about a baby living magical adventures in Kensington Gardens. Although he continued to write successfully, Peter Pan overshadowed the rest of his work. Barrie informally adopted the Davies boys after the death of their parents. Before dying on June 19, 1937, he ceded the rights to the works of Peter Pan to the Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital, in London.
