J. D. VANCE grew up in Middletown, Ohio, in the famous Rust Belt of the United States, and in Jackson, Kentucky, in the Appalachians. He enlisted in the Marines after graduating high school and fought in Iraq. He graduated from Ohio State University and Yale Law School. He wrote for the National Review and is a director of a prominent Silicon Valley investment firm. He lives in San Francisco with his wife.
