Issa Watanabe nasceu no Peru em 1980. Estudou Literatura, Belas-Artes e Ilustração. Viveu alguns anos na ilha espanhola de Maiorca, onde conheceu migrantes fugidos da guerra e da miséria. Cor e detalhe, sombra e luz são elementos essenciais no seu trabalho. Em 2018 foi selecionada para a Exposição de Ilustradores da Feira Internacional do Livro Infantil de Bolonha. Migrantes é a sua estreia na Orfeu Mini.
