Isabel Castanheira nasceu em Timor, em 1948, mas veio ainda bebé para as Caldas da Rainha.
Viveu mais tarde, até aos 18 anos, em Angola.
Veio a Lisboa cursar Organização e Gestão de Empresas, no INP, antes de voltar a Luanda, onde residiu até dezembro de 1974, altura do regresso definitivo às Caldas.
Dois anos depois criou um espaço cultural de referência na cidade: a livraria Loja 107, que só encerrou em 2011.
Recebeu a medalha de Ouro da cidade, o Prémio Livreiro, da APEL e o Prémio Livreiro Booktailors/Correntes d’Escrita, Póvoa do Varzim.
Assinou As Caldas de Bordalo (Arranha-céus, 2014).
