Isabel Allende é umas romancista, feminista e filantropa que nasceu no Peru e passou a maior parte da juventude no Chile.
É umas das escritoras mais lidas em todo o mundo, tendo vendido mais de 85 milhões de exemplares, estando os seus 38 livros publicados em 42 línguas.
É autora de vários bestsellers acalmados pela crítica, como O vento conhece o meu nome, Violeta, Longa pétala de mar, A casa dos espíritos, De amor e de sombra e Paula.
Para lá do seu trabalho como escritora, Isabel dedica muito do seu tempo a causas humanitárias.
Recebeu 15 doutoramentos honoris causa, entrou no California Hall of Fame e foi distinguida com o PEN Center Lifetime Achievement Award e o Anisfield-Wolf Lifetime Achievement Award.
Em 2014, foi agraciada por Barak Obama com a medalha Presidencial da Liberdade, a mais alta distinção civil nos EUA. Em 2018, recebeu a Medal for Distinguished Contribution to American Letters, atribuída pela National Book Foundation.
Vive na Califórnia com o marido e os cães.
