Isabel Alçada nasceu em Lisboa a 29 de maio de 1950, sendo a mais velha de três irmãs. A casa da família era muito frequentada pelas tias e pelas primas, mas era o pai, alegre, otimista, criativo que inventava as histórias e os jogos, bem como organizava os passeios e visitas a museus, que representavam um desafio e um estímulo permanente. A infância e juventude decorreram num ambiente alegre, caloroso, feliz, rico de vivências.
