Helena Serra é investigadora na área da educação especial e professora coordenadora jubilada da Escola Superior de Educação de Paula Frassinetti. É doutorada em Estudos da Criança/Educação Especial pela Universidade do Minho e tem o Curso de Formação em Sobredotação pelo World Council for Gifted and Talented Children. Autora de numerosos artigos e livros na área da Educação Especial, tem dedicado a sua vida à compreensão da dislexia e da sobredotação, tendo sido agraciada com o Grau de Comendadora da Ordem da Instrução Pública, em 2005.
