Helen Oxenbury é uma das ilustradoras de livros para crianças mais populares e reputadas do Reino Unido. Estudou na Escola de Arte de Ipswich e na Escola Central de Arte e Design de Londres. Trabalhou como designer e cenógrafa em companhias de teatro, na cadeia de televisão ABC e nos estúdios cinematográficos Shepperton. Construiu desde 1967 uma importante carreira como autora e ilustradora de livros infantis. Vendeu milhões de exemplares das suas obras por todo o mundo. Recebeu por duas ocasiões a Medalha Kate Greenaway e o Prémio Kurt Maschler, e três vezes o Prémio Smarties Book, para além do reconhecimento da Associação Britânica de Bibliotecários.
