Hannah Kent nasceu em Adelaide, Austrália, em 1985. Em jovem viajou até à Islândia num intercâmbio do Rotary Club, onde primeiro conheceu a história de Agnes Magnúsdóttir.
Hannah é a cofundadora e editora do jornal literário australiano Kill Your Darlings, e encontra-se a completar o doutoramento na Flinders University.
Em 2011 ganhou o primeiro Escrever a Austrália – Melhor Manuscrito Não Publicado (Writing Australia Unpublished Manuscript Award).Últimos Ritos é o seu primeiro romance.
