H. D. F. Kitto
H. D. F. Kitto (1897-1982) was born in England at the end of the Victorian era. He attended the Crypt Grammar School and the St. John's College, from Cambridge. During his studies, he was persuaded by a determined professor to pursue Classical Philology, for which he remained forever grateful. He continued his training as an assistant in Greek at the University of Glasgow from 1920 to 1944, until he was appointed professor of Greek at the University of Bristol. He retired in 1962 as one of the leading experts on Greek tragedy of the 20th century.
