Giordano Bruno
Giordano Bruno was born in Nola, Italy, in the year 1548.
In a unique life trajectory, he studied with the Dominican Order and, in 1572, became a priest. Among the personalities who most influenced him were Copernicus, Saint Thomas Aquinas, and Averroes. To escape the Inquisition, he traveled to Geneva, where, for a short period, he joined the Calvinists. Later, disappointed with this cult, he traveled to France. In Paris, in 1582, he published some of his most important works: «From the shadows of ideas», «Ars Memoriae» and «Cantus CircaeusIn 1583 he traveled to England, where he also published fundamental works:De la Causa, Principio et Uno», «From the Infinite Universe and World» and «Por gl'Heroici FuroriHe returned to France and, in 1586, traveled to Germany, where he embraced Lutheranism and taught Aristotle for two years at the University of Wittenberg. He returned to Italy in 1591.
In the «Introduction" to the "Of MagicAs Rui Tavares writes: "Giordano Bruno is an admirable figure in European culture and one of the most singular thinkers of the 16th century. Philosopher, magician, and scientist, a heretic to all churches and detached from all flocks, he paid for his ideas with his life, consumed in the inquisitorial bonfire of Rome in the year 1600."
