Gilbert Keith Chesterton (1874-1936), nascido em Londres, frequentou uma escola de artes. Em 1900, começou por escrever artigos sobre crítica de arte para uma revista e desde então não parou de escrever: poemas, romances, contos, peças e ensaios.
