Gianni Rodari (Omegna, Itália, 1920 - Roma, Itália, 1980) Político, jornalista, pedagogo e escritor, recebeu o Prémio Andersen em 1970. Diplomou-se pelo Magistério e começou a dar aulas particulares. Vinculou-se ao Partido Comunista Italiano e colaborou com jornais como «L’Ordine Nuovo» e «L’Unitá», em cujas páginas explanou a sua paixão pela literatura infantil. Autor de uma vasta obra, conheceu o sucesso com títulos como «Contos ao telefone», «Il romanzo di Cipollino» ou «Novelle fatte a macchinna», que são também algumas das suas obras-primas, portadoras de um novo paradigma que renovou a literatura tradicional e demonstrou que a brevidade pode não apenas ser sinónimo de uma boa narrativa, como até permitir ao leitor a decisão de idealizar o final da história. A partir das suas visitas a escolas e do seu trabalho dedicado à infância, escreveu a «Gramática da fantasia» (1973), a sua grande contribuição para a pedagogia contemporânea, com a qual transmitiu uma visão própria, revolucionária e libertadora de literatura.
