Gueorgui Gospodinov nasceu em Yambol, na Bulgária, a 7 de janeiro de 1968. É autor de obras de ficção, de poesia e de teatro. Traduzido para 25 línguas, é o escritor búlgaro contemporâneo mais lido e premiado.
O reconhecimento internacional surgiu com a publicação de Natural Novel (1999), traduzido para 23 línguas, incluindo o inglês, o alemão, o francês, o italiano e o espanhol. A The New Yorker falou de um "início anárquico e experimental".
O seu segundo romance, Física da Tristeza (2012), tornou-se o livro mais vendido da década na Bulgária. Alberto Manguel disse ser dos poucos romances que surgem ao leitor experimentado como absolutamente novos.
O seu livro Refúgio no Tempo, publicado na Relógio d'Água, obteve o Prémio Strega Europeo 2021 e o International Booker Prize.
