Friedrich Rosen (1856-1935) foi um diplomata e orientalista, que serviu o Império Alemão em diversos postos: vice-cônsul na Pérsia, cônsul em Jerusalém, director do Departamento de Assuntos do Oriente no Ministério dos Estrangeiros, em Berlim, embaixador em Tânger (1906-1910), Bucareste (1910-1912), Lisboa (1912-1916), Haia (1916-1921) - onde tratou do acolhimento no exílio do Imperador Guilherme II. Entre Maio e Outubro de 1921, foi Ministro dos Estrangeiros da República de Weimar. Foi também um reputado orientalista, tendo traduzido para alemão os Rubayat do poeta persa Omar Khayyam (circa 1048-1131). Foi também presidente e membro honorário da Sociedade Alemã do Oriente. Faleceu em Pequim, em 1935, por ocasião de uma visita ao filho Georg Rosen (1895-1961), ao tempo secretário da legação alemã na China.
