Nascido em Estugarda, em 1901, Fred Uhlman sempre disse ter sido a sua terra natal, Vurtemberga, no sudoeste da Alemanha, que o tornou um romântico para toda a vida, tendo também formado a sua sensibilidade poética. Lugar onde viveram Hegel e Herman Hesse, era um sítio de grande beleza, e é essa sensação que perpassa em cada página de Reencontro, o seu livro mais lido em todo mundo, elogiado por críticos e leitores e que é hoje considerado um clássico do século XX ­­. O autor, advogado e pintor antinazi, morreria em 1985.
