François Mauriac

Nobel Prize in Literature 1952

French novelist and journalist (1885-1970), he infused his novels with a fatalism and solitude that are not reflected in his journalistic work, often conducted as a battle, in newspapers such as Le Figaro and L'Express Among his novels, the following stand out. Thérèse Desqueyroux (1927), Le Noeud de vipères (1932), Le Sagouin (1951) and An Adolescent of Yesteryear (1969). His works also include poems (Les Mains jointes , 1909), essays (What I believe , 1962) and plays (Les Mal-Aimés (born , 1945). He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1952.
