Francisco Contente Domingues. Natural de Lisboa (14 de fevereiro de 1959 - 10 de março de 2021), foi professor catedrático da Faculdade de Letras da Universidade de Lisboa, onde lecionou matérias relacionadas com a História das Navegações e da Expansão Portuguesa e Europeia, e dirigiu os estudos pós-graduados em História e História Marítima (coorganização FLUL-Escola Naval). Entre os trabalhos mais recentes destaca-se a direção de duas obras coletivas: Homens, Navios e Marinheiros 1500-1668 (Academia de Marinha, 2012), e Dicionário da Expansão Portuguesa (Círculo de Leitores, 2016). Foi colaborador da coleção The Sea in History (4 vols., Boydell&Brewer, 2017). Foi membro da Academia de Marinha (Emérito), Academia Portuguesa da História e Academia das Ciências de Lisboa.
