Fernando Relvas
Fernando Carlos Nunes de Melo Relvas (Lisbon, September 20, 1954 – Amadora, November 21, 2017) was one of the most prominent comic book authors in Portugal. He collaborated on numerous publications, such as Tintin magazine (where he published...). The Spy Acácio which constitutes his most popular work), the weekly Se7e, the magazine Vision or The EnemyHe has released several albums, among which the following stand out. Karlos Starkiller, L123 and Our Cousin in BrusselsA comic book author by determination, persistence, or even stubbornness, he began in the 70s, illuminated the 80s, persevered in the 90s, and continued into the new century. And he died young in 2017.
Unfortunately, even today recognition of his importance is restricted to the tribe, and no one outside of it seems to acknowledge the author's importance and value to Portuguese art at the end and turn of the century.
The author never strayed from this center: making Portuguese comics, more current than ever before, sharp, recognizable as a portrait of an urban experience, but also anchored in the passion for History that he always cherished, with a corrosive and acidic humor in the face of the world in which we lived (live). His adult life has always been anchored in this ode to art and its power, revealing his deep passion for this literary combination of text and drawings.
