Eugenio Carmi

Eugenio Carmi (1920 - 2016) foi um pintor e escultor italiano. É considerado um dos principais expoentes do abstracionismo na Itália. Nascido em Génova, em 1938 Carmi mudou-se para a Suíça por causa das leis raciais impostas por Benito Mussolini. Formou-se em Química e voltou para a Itália após a guerra, onde estudou pintura com Felice Casorati e escultura com Guido Galletti. No início dos anos 1950, Carmi abandonou o estilo informal e adoptou um rigor geométrico nas suas obras. Os seus trabalhos costumavam usar materiais fabris, como aço soldado e ferro. Entre 1958 e 1965, Carmi colaborou com a siderúrgica Italsider (mais tarde Ilva) como responsável pela imagem. Em 1963 fundou com Flavio Costantini e Emanuele Luzzati a cooperativa de artistas Galleria del Deposito. Amigo próximo de Umberto Eco, colaborou com ele em vários projetos. Também ensinou em várias universidades.
