Eudora Welty (1909-2001), distinguida com o Pulitzer, é uma das escritoras mais proeminentes da literatura norte-americana do século xx. A sua escrita caracteriza-se por um sentido de irmandade para com os homens e o mundo e pelo lirismo das descrições do quotidiano. Na sua obra, o retrato nítido da paisagem física e humana dos estados do Sul alia-se a uma consciência política centrada na identidade de género e na questão racial. Welty legou um vasto espólio fotográfico que retrata a comunidade negra nos anos 30. A Antígona publicou desta autora Os Ventos e Outros Contos, em 2008.
