Ernesto Ferreira formou-se em Fisioterapia pela Escola Superior de Saúde de Alcoitão em 1994. Entre 1995 e 2003, foi fisioterapeuta da Seleção Nacional de Seniores Masculinos de Basquetebol e coordenador das restantes seleções. Entre 1994 a 1996 e 1998 a 2001 foi fisioterapeuta do Clube Atlético de Queluz. De 1996 a 1998, foi fisioterapeuta do Basquetebol do Sport Lisboa e Benfica. Tornou-se especialista em análise e tratamento biomecânico de lesões na corrida, pelo Running Therapy Center. Atualmente é diretor técnico do GFD - Gabinete de Fisioterapia no Desporto. Pratica atletismo e é detentor das seguintes marcas: 31:52 na São Silvestre da Amadora em 1990; 1:10:08 na Meia Maratona da Nazaré em 1991; 2:46:18 na Maratona de Sevilha em 2014; 34:52 na Corrida do Montepio em 2015; 1:17:45 na Meia Maratona dos Descobrimentos em 2015.
