Epicteto (55-135 d.C.) foi um filósofo grego de cuja vida pouco se sabe. Nasceu escravo em Hierápolis (na atual Turquia) e, já livre, veio a fundar uma escola de filosofia em Nicópolis, na Grécia, onde viveu o resto da sua vida. Dos seus textos apenas chegaram a nós as compilações Discursos e Manual (ou Enchiridion), graças a um dos seus discípulos, Arriano, que transcreveu e coligiu as palestras e ensinamentos do seu mestre.
