Emilio Salgari was born in Verona on August 21, 1862, into a modest family of small textile merchants. He soon revealed a literary vocation, dreaming of writing from his own experiences.
He is the author of a vast body of work, with over 80 published novels. He is considered the father of mass-market literature.
