Elizabeth Jane Howard nasceu em Londres em 1923.
Foi atriz e modelo antes de se tornar romancista.
Autora premiada, publicou catorze romances no total.
Em 2002 foi-lhe concedido o título de CBE (Dama Comendadora da Ordem do Império Britânico).
As Crónicas da Família Cazalet são já um clássico moderno, tendo sido adaptadas para a BBC.
Elizabeth faleceu em 2014, aos noventa anos.
