Elise Blackwell nasceu em 1964 e é a autora dos romances The Unnatural History of Cypress Parish, Grub, An Unfinished Score e Hunger. Este título foi escolhido pelo Los Angeles Times como um dos melhores livros de 2003 e os seus "fascínio e originalidade" foram realçados por J.M. Coetzee, Nobel da Literatura. Elise é neste momento professora na Universidade da Carolina do Sul.
