Egéria, também conhecida como Etheria, Aetheria, Echeria ou Aetheria, nasceu no século IV d.C. na Hispânia, provavelmente na Galécia, região atualmente ocupada pelo Norte de Portugal e pela Galiza. São escassas as fontes sobre a sua vida. No entanto, é certo que foi autora de um dos primeiros relatos sobre uma viagem à Terra Santa, onde esteve entre 381 e 384.
Provavelmente integrou uma comunidade religiosa, tendo, segundo algumas fontes, chegado a abadessa. Desconhece-se o ano da sua morte.
