Edna O'Brien

Edna O'Brien (1930-2024) nasceu na pequena aldeia irlandesa de Tuamgraney, mudando-se depois para Dublin e, sucessivamente, para Londres onde deu início à sua carreira de escritora.
A censura de que os seus livros foram alvo, chegando a sua venda a ser proibida, de resto à semelhança dos seus ilustres antecessores James Joyce e Frank O'Connor, não impediu que a autora alcançasse fama e reconhecimento.
Foram-lhe atribuídos inúmeros prémios e distinções, incluindo o Irish PEN Lifetime Achievement Award for Literature, o American National Arts Gold Medal, a Ulysses Medal e o PEN/Nabokov Award for Achievement in International Literature.
