Nascido numa família pobre mas tradicional, no interior do México, Don Miguel Ruiz foi o mais novo de 13 filhos. A mãe era curandeira e o avô, Don Leonardo, um conhecido "nagual", nome antigo que os Toltecas davam aos xamãs. É autor de As Quatro Verdades (bestseller do New York Times ao longo de mais de uma década), O Mestre e A Voz do Conhecimento.
Tem dedicado a vida a partilhar a sabedoria da ancestral cultura tolteca através dos seus livros, conferências e viagens por todo o mundo. Foi considerado em 2016 pela revista Watkins Mind Body Spirit a 28.ª pessoa espiritualmente mais influente do mundo, numa lista encabeçada pelo Dalai Lama e pelo Papa Francisco.
